Dolphin Digest--Week of October 26

The excitement is running high this week as the Halloween holiday is almost here.  We discovered on Friday that our "mystery project" was a scarecrow and we had the opportunity to craft our own unique creature! We have named them, and they are proudly standing outside our classroom. Our Fall Festival activities will be occurring this Friday, October 30 from 8:45 to 11:30. These activities take the place of a Halloween party. We do not dress up in costume in first grade. This activity is reserved for our kindergarten students.
I am looking forward to meeting with everyone in the next few weeks to discuss your child"s progress.
Please send back your confirmation if you haven't yet done so. Also, a reminder that Thursday, November 5, and Wednesday, November 18, are both Early Release Days for Parent Conferences.
There is no school on Friday, November 6 (Teacher In-Service), and Wednesday, November 11 (Veteran's Day).
We are pleased to welcome our new student, Adriana, to the Dolphin classroom! We now have 18 students--11 boys and 7 girls.
Enjoy your last week in October!
Best regards,
Deb

Columbus Innovation Day

This activity was the perfect integration of social studies and science and engineering. We read about Columbus and designed our own boats using the knowledge we gained from our observations of
the sinking/floating objects we tested out in our science experiment. Luckily, everyone's boat floated for at least ten seconds! Here are some pictures of the event...Enjoy!
