The Dolphin Digest--May 19,2014

Dear Dolphin Families,
We will be beginning our unit on dinosaurs this week and the children are very excited! Mr. Fosher will be in the classroom throughout the next few weeks as our resident dinosaur expert. As the final homework assignment, your child will be asked to choose a favorite dinosaur to research. Some of the research will be done in class and the rest at home. Sometime this week, a poster will come home for decorating. It is intended that all researched information be directly recorded onto the poster. The project is due on Tuesday, June 3. Remember, this project should be simple and fun! Other than the poster and reading, homework will end this week.
We are going to surprise the students by going camping in our classroom next week. If you are willing to come into the classroom on Tuesday, May 27th to set up a few tents with other parents, please let me know. Also, if you can lend a tent for the week, that would also be appreciated.  We are looking for three tents.
On Thursday, May 22 at 8:10,  there will be a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, followed by a school wide Morning Meeting. Each grade level will present a short song/poem to thank the volunteers. I hope to see you there. Your support this year has been tremendous. The many hours you have spent volunteering and chaperoning are truly appreciated. Also, the countless donations have been a tremendous help.  Most importantly, thank you for supporting your child’s love of learning!
Thanks for your attention and have a wonderful, safe holiday weekend!

Can you believe there is only five and one-half weeks left! It has been an amazing year and still more exciting things left to do. This week, we will be launching our plant unit. We will plant sunflowers in individual pots and watch, care, and chart their growth. With the help of our frogs and toads watching out for them...hopefully they will grow.(Frog/Toad "The Garden"). In math, we are tackling the concept of "fractions". In phonics, we will continue with bossy "r" controlled vowels: ir, ur, er. Please refer to the many events listed below and mark your calendars accordingly.
Thank you for your continued support,
Deb
