Parent Conferences

It's that time of year when we have the opportunity to get together again and share your child's progress. It will be a time to discuss progress and not a time to talk about your child's placement for next year. Mr. Fosher handles all placement concerns, and you are more than welcome to either write it down or schedule an appointment with him.
Ms. Winglass has two solo weeks of teaching coming up in April to fulfill her internship; therefore I am free to meet with you other days and times besides Wednesday, April 9 and 16. For those of you who may be coming into the classroom to volunteer in April, I would be happy to meet with you 20 minutes before or after your scheduled time. I am not available either April 8 or April 14 but any of the other days from 8-3 would work for me. Please e-mail me back with some dates and times that might work for you and I will get back to you ASAP.
Thank you,
Deb (dfennessy@sau16.org)

Dolphin Digest--March 3, 2014

I hope everyone enjoyed the winter break. I wish that I had planned to get away to a warmer climate! This week promises to be an exciting one in the Dolphin classroom! We will be decorating the room for St. Patrick's Day. Today, we are sending the information on making a leprechaun trap to be brought into school next Thursday, March 13. We will set them Thursday afternoon before we leave in hopes of trapping a "wee folk" before St. Patrick's Day. I am sure you'll hear whether or not we were successful.
I know your child will enjoy the many varied reading activities that the March reading calendar provides. Please make sure your child is doing the reading as there will be a prize at the end of the month for those who do.
In Reader's Workshop this week, we will demonstrate the comprehension strategies of "schema" and "inferring" when reading. In Writer's Workshop, we will be finishing up "persuasive writing" with letters home to you and then we will be using Mo Willems as our mentor author. Through his style of writing, we hope to create our own stories. We continue to practice addition/subtraction math facts and fact families. Please continue to practice them with your child at home.
Our thanks to all our classroom volunteers last month and party contributors. A very special thank you to Mrs. Girard for coordinating the Valentine refreshments.
Think spring and have a good week!
     Deb
