News This Week

This week, the excitement ran high as we discovered the "mystery project" was a scarecrow, and we had the opportunity to craft our own unique creature! We named them and they are proudly standing outside our classroom door. Our Fall Festival activities will be occurring on Friday, October 31 from 8:45-11:30. These activities take the place of a Halloween party. We do not dress up in costumes in first grade. That is a special activity reserved for our kindergartners.
I am looking forward to meeting with everyone in the next two weeks to discuss your child's progress. Please send back your confirmation if you haven't yet done so. Remember that October 29 and November 7 are both Early Release Days and there is No School on Monday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 11.
Best regards,
Deb

Field Trip to Scamman Farm

We had a wonderful trip to Scamman Farm on Friday. The weather cooperated as we all enjoyed a hayride around the farm, practiced our nursery rhymes to lead us out of the corn maze, and picked out a pumpkin to take home! Our thanks to our chaperones for joining us for a fun-filled morning.

Columbus Sail-a-thon

Today was the perfect time to combine social studies and science with readings about Christopher Columbus and sailing our homemade boats. Everyone had an opportunity to share and write about his/her boat's construction and then sail it for ten seconds in a washtub. Luckily, none of the boats sank! Enjoy our pictures and the three day weekend!
