Dolls from " Around the World"

I would like to commend everyone for doing a fabulous job dressing the doll cut-outs in costume. Everyone enjoyed sharing his/her doll and finding its place of origin on the world map.
Here are pictures from last week...

December in the Dolphin Classroom

It is hard to believe that the holiday season is here! These three and one-half weeks will fly by as the excitement intensifies. We will be studying various holiday customs that exist throughout the world...learning traditions through books, poems, and projects. We will be learning about St. Nicholas Day (The Netherlands), Diwali (India), Hanukkah (Israel), China, Mexico, Germany, Kwanzaa, and our own Christmas traditions. We anxiously await the arrival of your child's paper cut-out in costume on Friday, December 4. They will adorn our bulletin board, Holidays Around the World, for the month.
As we focus on family traditions and celebrate holidays this month, we will read the book, The Night Tree, by Eve Bunting. As a follow-up to this story, the students will stroll on the trails next to the playground and decorate trees for the animals.
The annual STA Book Fair will be happening here in our library beginning tomorrow, November 30 through Saturday, December 5. Our class will be shopping tomorrow, November 30, at 1:30PM. You are welcome to join us if you would like.
Finally, in lieu of exchanging gifts between one another in our class, we ask each child to bring in a wrapped "classroom gift" which he/she will unwrap and present to the class. It shouldn't be expensive. We will "brainstorm" a "wish list" to send home next week. Please do not feel the need to buy any "teacher" gifts. If you are so inclined, please consider a donation to the local food bank. The Stratham Teacher's Association will be accepting monetary donations to "St Vincent de Paul". Any contributions would be appreciated. Thank you!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about any of this information, please do not hesitate to call.
Enjoy the holiday season with your child!

Dolphin Digest--Week of October 26

The excitement is running high this week as the Halloween holiday is almost here.  We discovered on Friday that our "mystery project" was a scarecrow and we had the opportunity to craft our own unique creature! We have named them, and they are proudly standing outside our classroom. Our Fall Festival activities will be occurring this Friday, October 30 from 8:45 to 11:30. These activities take the place of a Halloween party. We do not dress up in costume in first grade. This activity is reserved for our kindergarten students.
I am looking forward to meeting with everyone in the next few weeks to discuss your child"s progress.
Please send back your confirmation if you haven't yet done so. Also, a reminder that Thursday, November 5, and Wednesday, November 18, are both Early Release Days for Parent Conferences.
There is no school on Friday, November 6 (Teacher In-Service), and Wednesday, November 11 (Veteran's Day).
We are pleased to welcome our new student, Adriana, to the Dolphin classroom! We now have 18 students--11 boys and 7 girls.
Enjoy your last week in October!
Best regards,
Deb
